Dr Thomas van der Heijden
A Dutch medical doctor, did part of his medical training in Tanzania. He has worked as a tropical doctor in rural hospitals in Botswana, Southern Africa.
His expertise in public health and health policy has seen him work for the World Health Organisation in Nepal, the European Union in Uganda and the Netherlands Embassy in Tanzania.
In addition, Dr van der Heijden has been involved in various AMREF projects in Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania. Since 1996 he has been working as a health consultant and poverty policy adviser.
He joined the AMREF International Board on October 4, 2002, and is currently the chair of the AMREF Health Programme Committee.
