What is VVF/RVF?

VVF is an abnormal communication/connection between the urinary bladder and vagina while RVF, is an abnormal communication between the rectum and the vagina.

Patients who have VVF and/or RVF leak urine or stool or both, continuously with no control. They smell of urine or stool all the time.

This condtion occurs when the blood supply to the tissues of the vagina and the bladder (VVF) or the vagina and rectum (RVF) are restricted during prolonged obstructed labour, the tissues between these organs die, forming holes through which urine or faeces can pass uncontrollably.
