H.E. Mr David Angell, High Commissioner to Kenya, Rwanda and Uganda, today paid a courtesy call on AMREF. The visit took place at AMREF HQ, Nairobi.

Discussions were focused on AMREF’s work in Africa and its contribution to health development in the region. Dr Teguest Guerma, Director General AMREF, observed that over the past 55 years, AMREF’s reach in the region has grown and today works it works in 33 countries. She stressed that AMREF believes that the power of lasting transformation of Africa’s health lies within its communities and that is why AMREF has been a catalyst for change of health in Africa. She thanked the Canadian government for its strong and continuous support and immense contribution over the years.
H.E. David Angell lauded AMREF for its good work in the region and its ability to make a positive impact on the communities in Africa. He also commended its participation and contribution to international and regional debates and forums adding that strategic partnerships are essential to conducting successful and sustainable interventions.
Canada’s support to AMREF dates back to 1973 when the first grant was received with institutional support coming in 1995.
AMREF is a transparent organisation distributing funds of up to $85 million per year.
