A boost for the Stand Up for African Mothers campaign

Today AMREF received Kshs 110,040 from Africa Alumni in conjunction with AudioVisual Concepts in support for the ‘Stand up for African Mothers’ campaign. This money is a contribution from the proceeds of the gate fee of the “Jazz Under the Stars” event held in June this year at the Windsor hotel Kenya.

Receiving the cheque at AMREF Headquarters, Dr. Teguest Guerma, AMREF Director General thanked the two entities; Africa Alumni and AudioVisual for their support saying that more people should emulate their example. “It is not the amounts that matter but the spirit of reaching out to support a good cause.” She welcomed more partnerships like this especially from the African continent, saying Africa has a lot of potential for fundraising particularly through the young population.

The cheque was presented by Christian Miako of Africa Diaspora and Edward Parseen of AudioVisual Concepts who pledged to continue their partnership with AMREF. “AMREF is a credible organization and we are very happy to be associated with the Foundation to help in fundraising initiatives through joint events like the now annual ‘Jazz Under the Stars’ event. “

The pair also took the cheque presentation to welcome all AMREF staff, friends and networks to the next ‘Jazz Under the Stars’ event in June 2013. Present at the presentation was Emily Mworia, AMREF’s manager for Fundraising and Partnerships.

The Stand Up for African mothers is a campaign launched by AMREF in October 2011 to draw attention to the plight of African mothers and to mobilise citizens worldwide to ensure that mothers get the basic medical care they need during pregnancy and childbirth.
