Grants Assistant - GF TB Project

Are you ready for a challenge to help bring lasting health change in Africa?  Come join a dynamic team if you are organized, highly motivated and results oriented individual in the positions of Grants Assistants, Monitoring and Evaluation Assistants and Project Assistant in the Global Fund TB Project.  The project is funded by Global Fund to Fight HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GFATM) with an overall objective of accelerating quality Directly Observed Treatment Shortcourse (DOTS) expansion in order to achieve and sustain national TB control targets in line with the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).  Among other interventions, AMREF is involved in Community Systems Strengthening (CSS) to ensure communities play a pivotal role in TB control interventions in line with DLTLD strategic plan 2011 – 2015.

Purpose of the job

Ensure effective management of project grants by enhancing sub recipients (SRs) compliance with contractual stipulations and enforcing procedures that assure transparency in the grants processes.

Key duties and responsibilities

  • Participate in setting grant management policies, and developing and enforcing procedures that assure transparency in the grants processes.
  • Participate in the project’s grants accounting, reporting, compliance and risk management process.
  • Review and finalize sub recipients budgets and work plans, prepare contracts/agreements and follow up on compliance.
  • Receive and review periodic grants reports for sub recipients, liquidate the eligible costs and take relevant action on the expenses rendered ineligible.
  • Provide timely feedback to sub recipients on grants performance.
  • Handle correspondences and matters in regard to grant management in consultation with the project team.
  • Carry out grants specific database maintenance and reporting and upload relevant reports in the Grants Management Information System (GMIS) in a timely manner.
  • Participate in mentoring, monitoring and other SRs capacity building initiatives.
  • Participate in operation research, documentation and dissemination of new lessons and experiences in grant management.
  • Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly and annual project performance reports.


Qualifications and competencies

The ideal candidate should have a minimum of a Bachelors Degree in Commerce (Accounting or Finance Option) from a recognized institution with at least CPA (K) or its equivalent.  At least three (3) years of hands on experience in managing CSOs granting process, capacity building and mentoring, risk and compliance management for CSOs with diverse institutional structures. Must be ICT and accounting packages proficient.  In addition, the ideal candidate should be a team player, have good interpersonal skills, good communicator both oral and written, honest and have ability to work under minimal supervision.
