
The AMREF/Moi, Masters of Public Health Programme was started in January 2008. The course is an evening programme and classes are offered at the AMREF International Training Centre. Moi University is the awarding institution.
Aim
To provide relevant knowledge and skills that equip the Public Health professionals to protect, preserve and promote the health of communities and populations in a multidisciplinary manner.
Course Structure
The programme comprises of seven (7) core courses, a choice of five (5) areas of specialisations and a research and thesis component. The 7 core courses are as follows: Principles of Public Health, Principles of Epidemiology, Basic Biostatistics, Research Methods, Social Dimensions of Health, Health Care Organisation and Management and Computer Applications in Health
Scope of Specialisation
This Post-graduate training programme leads to the award of the degree of Master of Public Health (MPH), of Moi University, with specialisation in any of the following areas:
- Health Services Management
- Epidemiology and Disease Control
- Health Promotion
- Human Nutrition
- Disaster Management and Preparedness
Requirements
- A basic degree relevant to the applicant’s area of specialisation, including Biological, Social and Health Sciences or other closely allied disciplines;
- Two years of relevant working experience.
Programme Duration
The duration of the programme is a minimum of 18 months (4 academic semesters) of study.
Partnership
The AMREF International Training Centre is recognised by the Commission for Higher Education and Ministries of Education and Health in Kenya. The MPH programme is a joint course of AMREF and Moi University with the latter being the awarding institution.

- A well-equipped clinical laboratory where trainees carry out practical examinations
- Computer laboratory with internet access;
- A state-of-the-art resource centre with access to online learning resources including over 13,500 e-journals, e-books and a large collection of books and print journals in health, management and development issues.
