Project Officer – Nurse

The Kibera ART Project, funded by Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) focuses on the provision of integrated HIV/AIDS services which include adult and paediatric care and treatment, PMTCT, PITCT; TB testing and treatment; prevention with positives; community mobilisation and capacity building with close collaboration with local and external partners.

The project is seeking an organised, highly motivated and results oriented individual to fill the posiiton of Project Officer reporting to the Project Manager.

Purpose of the Job

To provide quality nursing care and as well as counselling, psychological support in project activities and implementation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and participate in planning and implementation of project activities
  • Identifying HIV patients from all departments - outpatient, antenatal clinic, TB clinic, micro-finance through health education; counselling and testing and referring them for HIV care and support services
  • Triaging patients at the health facility
  • Managing HIV diagnostic counselling and testing of all TB patients
  • Participation in TB and HIV care, ANC, Paediatric care and MCH services in the Health Centre and in the community
  • Facilitation of links between community health workers (CHWs) and the Health Centre, organising regular community based organisation (CBO) meetings in the health centre together with staff
  • Supervision of CHWs, HIV and TB activities in the programme’s supported clinics
  • Referral of HIV/TB patients to CBOs providing home- based care to CHWs
  • Outreach to HIV affected families for advice and education
  • Provide advice about support services to HIV affected families - home based care, educational support for children, free in and outpatient medical treatment and linking affected families with other organisations providing support services
  • Monitoring and evaluating programme process by writing monthly, quarterly reports and maintaining registers.

Qualifications and Competencies

The ideal candidate should have a first degree in nursing or a Registered Community Health Nurse diploma.  At least five (5) years relevant work experience; professional training in HIV/AIDS and TB will be an added advantage. Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work under minimum supervision and a team player and with the ability to exercise discretion and tact with patients of different diversity.
