Nurse

AMREF in Kenya is looking for a well organised, highly motivated and results oriented individual to join a dynamic team and help bring better health for Africa. Stationed in Nairobi and reporting to the Senior Clinician, the incumbent will provide nursing and medical support to patients and other service providers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Capable of responding and handling medical emergencies competently.
  • Good knowledge and experience in clinical skills (able to diagnose and manage or refer cases as necessary)
  • Able to carry out simple medical procedures - e.g. ear syringing, simple stitching and dressing, incision and drainage of simple abscess etc
  • Able to assist / work in the pharmacy e.g. ordering and receiving drugs and other medical supplies, balancing drugs at the end of each day etc
  • Familiar with vaccines, especially travel vaccines and their administration.
  • Knowledge on sterilisation and autoclaving of surgical equipments.
  • Assist in planning & coordinating medical training programmes & health related information for staff.
  • Counsel and guide patients on health related problems/matters/patterns.
  • Assist in compiling data and producing the monthly reports
  • Receiving, receipting and forwarding all money collected to the Finance Department daily.
  • Office management and administrative support: receives and reviews correspondence, receiving and dispatching correspondence (including letters, faxes, email, telephone calls etc).
  • Creating new files, retrieving and recording patients data in the register in a systematic manner.
  • Maintaining office inventory, stationery supplies and utility services.
  • Reception: receiving all visitors and acts as the first point of references for all queries

Qualifications Requirements

  • Minimum Diploma holder and must be a registered nurse/midwife from a recognised medical training college.
  • Diploma in Counselling and Business Administration will be an added advantage.
  • At least 3 years work experience in a busy health centre or clinic.

  • High level of tolerance to both staff/patients and ability to handle different and demanding customers.
  • Able and willing to work long hours, under pressure and with minimal supervision
  • Posses business acumen skills.
