AMREF Flying Doctor Service leads the way in Air Rescue in Africa

With over 50 years of experience in Air Ambulance and Rescue Operations, AMREF Flying Doctor Service has achieved high goals in service standards.

Kenya’s AMREF Flying Doctor Service was the first non European, non US air rescue provider to receive an accreditation by the European Aeromedical Institute (EURAMI) www.eurami.eu one of only two organisations in the world who can officially assess standards of service provided by Air Ambulance organisations.

In March 2007, after a thorough two day on site audit, the reviewers of the board of EURAMI approved the level of “Full Accreditation - special care” for air rescue providers to AMREF Flying Doctor Service. This is the highest level available, confirming the proven capabilities of AMREF Flying Doctor Service in air transportation of special high risk patients at high standards.

In the words of the President of EURAMI, Dr Weinlich, “The AMREF accreditation provides evidence that international standards can be achieved on a worldwide level and adequate medical care in the air rescue field is not restricted to first world countries but demonstrates the ability to operate under difficult circumstances at high standards. “

EURAMI has members in 27 countries and as an organisation of air medical proffesionals and operators in and outside Europe, seeks to harmonise quality standards, thus improving patient care in air medical transport worldwide.

With 600 evacuations annually, 10% of which are charitable, AMREF Flying Doctor Service will continue to pave the way for quality care in patient management outside the hospital set up in Africa and beyond.
