Monitoring & Evaluation Officer - DANIDA

The position reports to the Project Manager and is based in Nairobi.

AMREF Kenya is looking for individuals who are organized, highly-motivated and results- oriented to join a dynamic team and help bring lasting health change in Africa. Under the Child and Reproductive Health Programme, with funding from DANIDA, the project will be   implemented in Samburu, Turkana, Marsabit, Isiolo and Wajir Counties. The project will focus on Reproductive Health/Maternal, Newborn and Child Health interventions working in collaboration with the Ministry of Health.

Purpose of the Job

To provide M&E technical expertise and support programme activities and implementation in close collaboration with County and District Health Management Teams (DHMTs).

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • In collaboration with the County and District Health Management Teams, assist in preparing monthly, quarterly and annual reports relating to the project.
  • Participate in strengthening existing M&E systems in the project.
  • Ensure AMREF and donor visibility at county and local levels.
  • Assist in jointly developing project activities in a timely manner with the County and District Health Management Teams.
  • Assist in organizing and conducting field visits and meetings in close collaboration with County and District Health Management Teams and other relevant stakeholders to strengthen networks and partnerships.
  • In close collaboration with County Health Management Teams, support in project surveys, organizing and facilitating quarterly, semi-annual and annual programme review meetings and giving feedback on M&E activities.
  • Facilitate the DHMTs in data capture and reporting using monitoring tools to track program indicators and targets.
  • In close liaison with the DHROs and RH coordinators, build the capacity of health care providers and CHWs to implement MNH monitoring and evaluation as per the GOK guidelines.
  • In liaison with DHROs and RH coordinators, provide on-the-job training and mentorship in monitoring and evaluation.
  • In collaboration with DHROs, ensure M&E tools are available and in use in project sites.
  • In close collaboration with DHROs and RH coordinators, conduct regular DQA and continuous quality improvement.
  • Participate in the development of IEC/BCC related materials and messages.
  • Participate in conducting operations research, documenting and sharing new experiences and best practices from the project for influencing policies and practices.

Qualifications and Competencies

The ideal candidate should have a first degree in Statistics, Social Sciences or its equivalent with hands-on skills in MoH monitoring and evaluation. S/he must be experienced in reproductive health/maternal and newborn care M&E with at least four (4) years relevant work experience. Excellent skills in statistical analysis packages such as STATA and SPSS are mandatory. The person must possess superior quantitative and qualitative skills. S/he must be a person of high integrity, discretion and personal conduct who is also flexible and adaptable to changing working conditions. Should be self-motivated, result-oriented and proactive with good judgment and initiative, and is able to prioritize, meet deadlines and work in a multicultural environment.
